Short and Late

by Fentyke @ 09/11/2006 - 11:40:41

I know the title sounds like a description of a midget with a sevier case of delayed ejactulation but you may be surprised to learn that I'm actually refering to GNER.

Last nights 17.20 was bang on time which was nice but I struggled to get out of bed this morning and missed the 07.20. This wasn't too much of a problem as I have an awards ceromony to go to tonight which means I'll be officially working well into the night. I may be a little worse for wear by the end of it but it's still classed as working in my eyes. Consequently I arrived at P'boro station at 08.10 expecting to get the 08.33. As I walked into the station complex (building is a fairer description) I glanced at the board to see....... the 08.04 was running 8 mins late. I staggered in shock and delight, bought a paper and the train pulled up as I walked onto the platform.

Not a bad journey but there was no trolly again due to staff shortages. This is becomming a regular thing now and it makes me wonder if GNER have a recruitment freeze in place or are they struggling to attract applicants or is this down to a lack of sickness and holiday cover? Either way I really fancied a cuppa this morning but being a lazy sod, couldn't be arsed to walk to and que in the buffet car.

As expected the train arrived into Kings Cross 10 mins late but I was happy as I was 20 minuets ahead of schedule. What I wasn't happy with was a lack of an explanation but I'm sure it was either due to over running engineering or a being stuck behind a freight or local service.

Finally, If you get a chance, please try to read the comments section as we now have a very nice GNER guard logging entries. Very enlightening he has been so far and for that he has my thanks.
