Livin' in America

by Shahmacher @ 10/11/2006 - 16:18:10

Well, it seems our blog is quite a centre for debate these days. It's good to see the raft of comments and new visitors.

I'm back in Blighty next Saturday and can't say I'm looking forward to rejoining the daily commute. I really have been spoilt in terms of staying in a hotel within Boston's financial district.

I am, however, looking forward to reaquainting myself to some of the things I've missed from home;

- Association Football
- Curry
- My friends
- My family
- My girlfriend
- My car
- Sky
- Being able to smoke in a pub

Though, I must say I've really enjoyed my stay in Boston. I've had some quite bizarre evenings and experiences, which include;

- Being involved in a car accident (no injuries, but did have to spend a few hours in Massachusetts General Hospital)

- Bumping into officers and sailors from HMS Chatham, which was in Boston last weekend for refeulling. They took me onboard and I was privileged enough to receive a full tour of our largest frigate. This included the radar and weapons room, which was pretty amazing. I shared a few drinks in the mess before we all headed out and painted the town red. We did the same on Saturday and were the centre of attention everywhere we went. Great fun!

- Drinking Sam Adams and Scorpion Bowls

- Drinking in Cheers

- Being hit on by pretty much every female I speak to, including several waitresses, serving wenches and staff at the hospital. I feel my ego may have grown too large for the flight home.

Unfortunately, the weeks of excess have taken their toll on my waistline and I will need to spend most evenings on the run up to Christmas in the gym.

What joy...

Dont do it when sober

by Platform6 @ 10/11/2006 - 11:32:31

I went out in London to watch football on Wednesday evening and therefore caught the 23.30 home, I dont drink at football matches due to my weak bladder,so I boarded the train sober....what a mistake, its not even Christmas yet but most of the carriage seemed a little tipsy.
The girl behind me spent 30 minutes talking very loudly into her mobile phone, she must have told her friend 20 times that she was not drunk, which is always a give away. Anyway if that young lady is reading this, on behalf of the whole of coach D,"I hope your rash clears up soon" it did sound painful.
"Posh and pissed"!! thats always good for a laugh and the "quick one after the theatre crowd" provided good entertainment, especially the man that spend 10 minutes trying to find his ticket, eventually he found it...in his top pocket!!! now who would have thought of looking there??
The agony of watching all of this was extended by a delay in the Sandy area, we eventually arrived into Peterborough 15 minutes late, sadly I don't know why because the Guard did not bother to make an announcement or an apology, but as 99% of the train seemed oblivious to what day of the week it even was, I do understand why he did not bother.
