According to The Times, The Dept for Transport has agreed to tear GNER's franchise up and start again. The bit that I don't get is where they say GNER will be allowed to run services for the next 2 years while the ECML is re-tendered.
Quite frankly this does stink somewhat. I wouldn't be surprised if this opened the floodgates and we see more opperators pleading poverty and asking for their franchise to be torn up too.
