I remember the old BR strap line of 'Let the Train take the strain'. Diesels comment on yesterdays post made me think. Flexibility and affordability used to be one of the trains main USP's (unique selling points). But I think those days are long gone.
Many services have been cut and those that remain are often cancelled at little of no notice. Likewise many services are full leaving passengers with little option but to stand. Walk on fares are unaffordable by all but those with a fair level of disposable income or business travellers.
So what are the trains USP's now? Wi Fi! No traffic jams! Moist Pork Pies and sandwhiches made with fresh bread!
