3rd day of disruption

by Fentyke @ 27/06/2007 - 09:48:00

Looks like it's more of the same today and from the looks of the news reports, delays are likely to be all too common this week and maybe running into next. Every GNER service was delayed this morning and yes they cited the flooding oooop North as the main cause.

I joined coach C on the 07.20 which arrived into Tinsel Town at 07.57 and it was standing room only in 1st and 2nd. On board I was asked by a very nice but very Pregnant lady why there weren't any seat reservations. I exoplained that in these circumstances it was normal for seat reservations to be removed. 'But I can't stand all the way to Kings Cross' came the reply. Everyone around us could see how far gone she was but only one bloke (who was woking on his lap top and had papers all over the table) offered his seat. The lady declined and as I intended to use one of my upgrade vouchers, I suggested she follow me down to 1st to ask the guard if they would allow her to sit there. And so we very slowly pushed passed all the people stood in the isles and vestibules. During the BIG PUSH to 1st, it has to be said that only one other person offered the lady their seat which I thought was dispicable. The womans heavily pregnant for gods sake and all 100's of people could do was look anywhere but at the lady as we passed. Disgusted I was.

10 minutes later we arrived at the whole doors of 1st class. One GNER crew serving in the dining car said there weren't any seats left and tried to stop us going any further. I took one look at him, pointed at the ladies belly and frowned. He scurried off in the direction of first and returned smiling 30 seconds later and offered her the last seat on the train in the next coach. We walked through only to see my mate making a beeline for the spare seat. Richard is a lovely lad and he took one look at the lady, backed off imediately and returned to the vestibule. The lady took her seat and I joined Richard in the vestibule and stood for the next 45 mins into Kings Cross.

Thankfully for me I only have one more day in London before I'm off on my hols for 2 weeks. After the last 2 weeks, I can't bloody wait. Having said that it will just be my luck to get stuck at Stanstead.

Finally, in response to Deisels earlier comments I would just like to publically acknowledge the work frontline GNER staff have put in over the last few days. I for one appreciate your efforts (despite not being able to travel) and it can't have been much fun. It's just a shame your office based colleagues can't sort out their customer communications. I realsie this is pretty much an invuitation for Ron and others to berate you and I, but what the hell, I'm a big boy now and I can take it.

This morning was indeed a shambles, although couldn't be helped with the floods as they are. I caught the 0746 which eventually left at quarter 8 but was in by 5 past 9 at the Cross and had a fair number of empty seats..

To be fair to Peterborough the announcer did say that the 0720 was full and standing when it was approaching. Its a pity the platform staff weren't in attendance to espy your pregnant Lady as they could have suggested she wait for a later train a few minutes later and get a seat that way.

I felt GNER let the commuter down badly yesterday by not having a printed timetable available for the evening peak of what trains were running and at what times etc. Neither the GNER website or National Rail let alone the actual Railway reporting systems had a set of trains running, it would have been handy to know for certain that the service was going hourly from 1900, the only info I saw of this was posted on here.

Anyway i believe something has been provided today so i shall look later.

It was bad this morning. I spent the whole journey finishing off a rather nice sample of Columbias finest export.
Still it made for a more pleasant journey.

Thank you for your efforts! Your having a laugh. The only thing this has convinced me of is you cunts could not organise a piss up in a brewery. The level of service has been awful.
No fucking planning at all, no contingency, no organisation, a complete fucking shower of people.
So dont start congratulating yourselfs on this almighty cock up you useless shit.

You boys need to get up a bit earlier and get the 0615. No problems with that, it was even on time this morning.

Of course it has the advantage that it starts from P'boro and so doesn't get involved with the flooding further north.

You can't talk Ron. Your home country barely has a rail system. What's that famous train of yours down under? The Ghan isn't it? Top speed is 40 miles an hour and takes three days to get to its destination. Not much to boast about in this day and age 'Ozzie Boy' !

I bet that Poohwoomba woomba place where you come from hasn't even got a railway line? Ha ha ha Heh Heh !

Well mate you can come to OZ any day at my expense and stay with some fantastic people who will really make you welcome.

When you leave you will know what a fantastic country we have and what a positive can do attitude we adopt.

And the women........

Genuine invitation.

And BTW you no longer have to have a criminal record to come!

No worries there about pregnant women and seats. We would let the fat lazy cow stand, she probably needs the exercise anyway.

So, if things are so great over there, I'm just curious why you're over here?? Anyway, thanks for the invite. Maaate !

By the way, still waiting for the answers to the quiz?

The reaon why we are over here is simple. There are not enough decent UK people available to do the jobs. Most of the top firms in London have aussie management running them. They pay us a fortune to take your jobs as the Brits are so fucking incompetent.

I own a house at Number 1 Kirrabilly Avenue worth a million uk pounds all paid for in cash by my time spent working here.

I am glad your such lazy incompetent drongos!

GNER control were useless this morning. I attempted to get information from them and well having the phone picked up and then put down is not good.

Finally was told That leeds is open hooray.... but.... not calling at wakefield and all Electrics were cancelled.

The message changed 15mins later and no services to Leeds.

20mins later back to leeds only and change at doncaster and pray for a replacement service.

Later this morn more cancelled trains, gave up and gave them GNER Customer Services BT number and told them to mon at them.

heard that ex-President Bliar no longer has use of the private jet and went to Darlington by GNER today.

It reminded me of an encounter with our great Deputy Prime Minister 'let's shag a fat civil servant tonight' Johnnie Prescott.

I had reserved a first class return ticket from Newark and was looking forward to dinner and a glass of wine on the return journey from KX. The train pulled out....all was well in the world; the guard appeared and I was happy to produce my ticket. "You can't sit here - security risk" I was told "The Deputy Prime Minister is in this carriage with his party so you have to move"
And there he was - I could see the back of the great man's head. Anyway that was it - I had to go. I did ask the obvious question that if the fat bastard who calls himself a socialist is such a risk then he should not have been allowed on the train. He was clearly a liability.

And that was as close as I have ever been to a world statesman.

Ive been told to move before because a 'famous' person was in the carriage. The whole train was full and I refused to move and told them to get me to move.

He didnt do jack to get me moved.

I will always do my best to get a pregnant woman a seat, its only right, I will give up my seat for somebody who needs it more, its only right that you do, but it is surprising how many people who don't. I was working a train once that was very busy and lots of people were standing. A young man inhis early 20's was sittning down whinging about how busy the train was and that there was an elderly lady standing next to him and that she shouldn't have to because of her age. After I asked him why he did not give up his seat for her I found her a seat in first class.

I am not in the habit of moving people because a famous person is travelling. They may be famous but they are just people afterall.

This business about giving pregnant women seats, gets right up my hooter. In Africa women work in the fields up untill they drop. Women here are fucking idle.As for giving an old women a seat........fuck off. These bitches generally outlive men by ten years because they are so fucking bone idle and useless.

Womens lib, well let all things be equal I say

Just out of interest... Just say a pregnant woman turns up at XXXXX station for a train and then buys a SVR / BVR / SOR to any given destination. surely she takes the risk of not getting a seat. She was pregnant before breching the station doors... Something GNER cant be blamed for surely

On a slightly different note... Anyone know what's happened to the 17:50 from KX? It hasn't appeared on the online departure board at all the last couple of days. Normally it's there but is in red if its cancelled. Is this train still running?

The online departure boards for our PDA's are now ten days out of date. I am willing to bet that things on the trains will be problematic in the coming week due to more weather and the attack at Glasgow airport, this is likely to affect GNER and Virgin services.
