Can it be true?? A few months ago this blog moaned when NXEC? moved the 06.10 departure over to platform 3 at Peterborough. Suddenly this week it has returned to Platform 2, did someone respond to our comments or was it so obviously such a stupid idea that they worked it out on their own?

Seems to be true - platform 2 again today

-
- 20/03/2008 @ 11:09:51
ahh how lovely would it be for you all if it was your little blog of moaning that changed the platform, and not some bored signal man,who had watched open university, squeezed his zits and thought "ahh now what can i do next"
Enjoy your railway
Aah ha so now we know what Fentykes been doing, and some thought he had maybe gone on some special undercover operations for the "railways against crap services" club, but no he been perfecting floating, rippling validation codes -
- 20/03/2008 @ 12:42:46
Through risk at being "shot down" by Badwolf again
The railway works to whats called a "working timetable". This gives the true timings of trains and includes freight trains, empty trains etc. This WTT also gives Platform details. The signaller should read the WTT and set the route accordingly (or the route is set automatically).
When a train is routed into a non-timetabled platform the information screens at Peterborough have the platform number flashing to indicate that this is a platform alteration.
The WTT also has timetable notices which give notice of localised change. So assuming the Platform remains then this is what is likely to have happened. The timetable notice could've been asked for by the train operating company, or local staff/ managers within Network Rail.
Looking at the departure boards recently it looks like the 0600 FCC is still scheduled to depart from Plat 2, but if the National Express service from London is early then the FCC gets moved onto Plat 3.
Anyway good to see Badwolf back on form - some of their previous posts were almost useful ;-)))

It was just a bit of light humour because its getting really dull and boring now, nothing or nobody to get me teeth into.

Good news, although the fact it turned up at all is something to be happy about.
-
- 21/03/2008 @ 12:40:06
now all we need to do is get the side gate opened and refuse to pay the £1 a day short stay car parking
-
- 22/03/2008 @ 01:40:30
why do you need the side gate open walk round to the front, lazy bleeders, thats what god you legs for.
yeah don't pay the £1, we'll just let ya frigging tyres down, -
- 23/03/2008 @ 12:00:23
Anybody with a hint of DIY skills can make up the key that is needed to open the door.
Maybe we should all buy Polish registered cars then simply park them on the yellow line outside the station!
-
- 23/03/2008 @ 15:01:12
The side gate is locked for security reasons and because numbnuts commuters like you dont know how to close it properly. keep paying your 1.00 because it goes towards our bonus as we do such a wonderful job. Have a nice day
-
- 25/03/2008 @ 09:28:44
Security my arse. If it were locked for security reasons it would be peramanently locked and razor wire nailed to the top of that easily climbable fence. As far as I can see NXEC think fare dodgers are using it to escape the RP police and so decided to keep it shut. Customers can easliy access the platform without a ticket by going through the cafe which is rarely manned.
Personally I'd advise anyone who can't make their own key to pay a short visit to E-bay, search for railway key or train key or similar and purchase their own. Once you have the ley please open the gate everytime you leave the station and leave it open for everyone else.
And for Badwolfs information, it's not about laziness, but convenience and honesty. Firstly NXEC have made up some cock and bull story about security which most people with half a brain can see is a lie. Secondly for those using the north car park and bike shed etc, that gate was very convenient. For an inteligent person, I can't believe you can't see that. I'll also point out that we could quite easily throw the same accusation your way and say staff are too fucking lazy to check tickets before boarding or on board. Get that right and you solve the RP problem without inconveniencing customers and shutting the gate permanently.-
- 25/03/2008 @ 17:32:26
1. It is security - we have been told by the government, under new legislation, requires the station to be more secure. 2. If train keys are bought and used to access railway property, via non-railway employees or police, is illegal. 3. The short stay car park is a £1 an hour, not a day... 4. Why would the railway employ staff for revenue protection at Peterborough if they were too lazy to check tickets? 5. Go to bed early and arrive promptly before departure and revenue protection should not be an inconvenience!
-
- 25/03/2008 @ 20:53:30
I don't buy this yet.
1. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can access or leave P'boro station at any time of the day or night from one of any number of routes. For instance, you may have noticed that huge expanse of wastelad opposite platform 6 and that fence wouldn't stop an arthritic grandma getting in or out if she really wanted too.
2. Re this supposed government legislation on station security, where can we find details? I can't find anything on the internet, my contacts at Rail magazine have never heard of it, yout the only one to mention it and if that were the case, why hasn't NXEC let their disgruntled passengers know that Mr Brown told them to shut the gate and it's out of their hands.
3. If this morning and this evening were anything to go by, BTP are going to be awfully busy arresting passengers who have opened the gate to enter and exit the station and who have dared to smoke on the public road out the front.
4. The short stay fee is another impositional tax on fare paying customers introduced since NXEC took power. Coincidental? I think not. Unrealised revenue more like it. Happily from what I've seen, few people are paying it and nobody from NXEC seems to be policing it so free short stay parking remains for the time being.
5. Read the previous comment again and you will see I said we could throw the same lazy accusation at staff but I avoided doing so becasue I don't for one minute think a member of station staff would fail to check tickets through sheer lazyness unless they were told to do so by a senior memebr of staff.
6. Most commuters do go to bed early and arrive at the station in good time. You also seemed to have failed to notice that most off the issues commented on concern passengers leaving the sation not entering it. We accept and know that a good time to check tickets is before passenegrs even make it onto the platform let alone board a train, but forcing that many passengers through those little doors at peak times when an alternative exit is available is ridiculous. We are not cattle you know (though I accept a few of your less desitable customers may behave in a similar fasion). 99.9% of us are normal decent human beings who object to being shoved around like tiddlywinks.
-
- 25/03/2008 @ 21:44:11
You just wont be told you think you know it all FACT is you dont.I have told you why things are the way they are.Yes you could enter from Platform 6 (IF THERE WAS ONE) there are only five at PBO.Why dont passengers stick to travlling on trains and leave the running of the stations to NXEC.
-
- 23/03/2008 @ 15:42:05
Can anyone on the planet please explain to me why Kelly Osbourne is now a celebbrity and on TV?
-
- 25/03/2008 @ 12:56:37
my issue with the gate isn't just about the extra walk, it's the having to fight your way through crowds of day trippers at the front entrance.
re: the parking, I know a nicker aint much, but it's another £200 a year on top of the £5.5k they're already fleecing me for. -
- 25/03/2008 @ 15:22:40
Now thats quite enough! You all have been extremely naughty to dear old Bad Wolfie and I am most up-set.
Any more of this and I will give you all a darn good spanking over my knee.
Now settle down, theres a good commuter. -
- 25/03/2008 @ 15:45:51
iT WAS SO NICE TO SEE NO COMMUTERS OVER THE BANK HOLIDAY THE GATE IS LOCKED FOR SECURITY END OF. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT BE BOTHERED TO WALK ROUND, YOU LAZY SODS. AND NXEC IS NOW FINEING THE SMOKERS OUT SIDE. THE FRONT OF THE STATION HA HA GOOD LUCK.
-
- 25/03/2008 @ 15:46:37
"A spanking service" provided by Badwolf? I imagine there would be a few in First Class that would pay well for such a service. It Could become quite a profitable side line Badwolf. LOL

- 25/03/2008 @ 20:29:55
Which sad bastard set up this blog?!?!?! The staff at peterborough station are not responsible for the cancellation of trains you idiots and im sure they have more to worry about than whether or not you have to get your sorry ass over to platform 3 to catch a train!! i suggest you get a bleeding life.
Good work 'bad wolf' and 'i love NXEC' ile join you in making this sad bastard look even more of an idiot!-
- 25/03/2008 @ 21:10:02
Good to see we have a member of National Express customer service team on the blog now ;-)))
-
- 25/03/2008 @ 21:14:38
Yeah, Yeah. Your original. Read a lot of the post and comments did you? Perhaps you can point me to the post where we accuse platform staff for being reponsible for delays and cencelations becasue I sure as hell can't find it and it's my blog.
Quite frankly I couldn't give two shits what you think about this blog or me for that matter. I don't trawl blogs or web site adding inane and pointless comments or thoughts because unlike your name which obviously fits, I do have a life, I don't have time and I have better things to do than get involved with issues that don't concern or affect me.
Your not the first to post a comment like this and you won't be the last.
Twat!-

Dear oh dear oh dear.
I cannot leave you lot for 5 minutes can I, i inject a little light relief (no pun intended) and all hell breaks loose.
Firstly i could not care less whether the end gate stays open or closed, open is easier for you lot, but not NXEC., when someone says "i could say but wont" that means obliquely means you have said it, again whether you think im too lazy to check tickets thrown back or said to my face, i couldn't care less, i know my job, and i don't justify it to anyone who is not my boss.
I don't know who bad wolf 25 march re spanking but its not the original, but if someone wishes to masquerade with my name hey imitation is the highest form of flattery, but im still the ONLY badwolf.
I do agree with minerwilly on the front entance when you have 10-15 smokers all hovvering around the door it can be a pain in the arse, but thats the goverment for ya, one thing we cannot get blamed for, because if we moved them away from the door all you would get is complaints on here about how folk had to stand in the rain and snow and blah blah blah because of NXEC.
if people have purchased metal keys on certain auction sites surely this comes down to staff stupidity not passengers, as staff should not be selling items like this. The only reason this was seen to be locked is to bring down the chances of fare dodging but as exits for the cafe and front doors are not manned 24/7 seems like a bloody pointless exercise.
good to see we got a bit more life in here got to tell ya it was starting to get bloody boring...and remember Badwolf doesn't need ANYONE to fight his corner......enjoy ya day -
- 26/03/2008 @ 09:05:49
Thanks Badwolf though I'll say it again, I do not think staff are lazy and I really was just making the point (though I appreciate yours). Thanks for the honesty re the gate too. It's a shame I LOVE NXEC can't back anything up with some evidence. If there really was legislation then there would be mention of it somewhere on the web. Unfortunately our friend seems to think that passengers have the mentality of sheep and should just blindly accept everything we're told which is just not in my nature.
I know what you mean re the keys but lets face it, these keys have been used on the railways for donkeys. Consequently i'm sure many are actually being sold by people whose father or grandfather worked on the railways and therefore have no use for them when that person departs this world. I really don't think there will be many being sold by current staff.
The number of passengers with a key or impliment that fits that gate are obviously growing. I saw a bloke last night who opened it with his car key (one of those Audi ones where the metal bit flips out like a flick knife) and he just walked off with the gate open behind him. Shortly after that I watched a member of staff carrying a bag of tin cans and rubbish open it and refuse a lady who was following. He very curtley told her that 'only staff can use this gate' as he shut it in her face. I realise he was only following orders etc but he could have been more polite to say the least. If she hadn't stepped back it WOULD have hit her square on the nose.-

-
- 26/03/2008 @ 11:38:36
Passengers do have the mentality of sheep that is why a group of 15 crowd round one door when others are available. Get a brain, the gate is locked mainly for security reasons, as staff have had more than enough abuse from drunks using it come onto the platform when thoughtless people leave it open at night. I know as i have doubt with the new plans for the gate but you will not be told.
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 11:57:57
Thanks ILNXEC. I think your last post is your most enlightening and sensible yet. That gate was only ever left open during peak hours so from what I can gather, you're now saying that the decision to close it was due to people leaving the gate open after the evening rush which left platform staff vulnerable to attack from drunkern nutters. This makes a damn sight more sense to me. However what doesn't make sense is the fact that the gate is as vulnerable to being opened by drunks now as it was then yet commuters have been needlessly inconvenienced.
And please please please understand that I'm not just going to take sombodies word for something I don't agree with unless they can substanciate it. Think about it. Your not registered on this site so for all I know you could be any old joe having a laugh at the blogs expense.
So, what are the plans for the new gate then?
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 12:44:33
Every 6 months the station has to meet certain security standards which is why the gate is locked. I hope you appreciate that I can't say to much about the new plans but the gate will not be staying opne but there are ideas being tested.
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 18:30:21
Is this an internal National Express audit - or are we talking about TRANSEC here?
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 21:06:21
Am i seeing things or do we have a commuter that knows what he is talking about. You get frist prize.
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 12:51:31
NXEC really are the pits. They make Macdonalds workers look like highly intelligent human beings.
In fact I was comparing a Cretin to an NXEC employee the other day and you know what? The Cretin was more intelligent.
NXEC staff also dress badly and smell.-
- 26/03/2008 @ 12:59:32
How old are you!! lol Get back in to class your teacher must be coming back soon.
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 13:12:55
And not all NXEC staff dress badly and smellsome of us take pride in our appearance thank you!
-
- 26/03/2008 @ 19:08:21
Oh dear, this is getting a little personal, isn't it!!! Sadly, not everyone scrubs up to the same standard. (Punters as well as some staff.)
If everyone took more pride in themselves it would make the whole place a lot nicer. Including using manners!!!!! The rudeness I've witnesses is incredible. And that IS just the punters! Sorry, guys, it has to be said! I appreciate some staff are heinous (some of us know first hand - having to work with them 8 hours a day!) But PLEASE don't tar us all with the same brush!!!!!! -
- 26/03/2008 @ 21:04:03
Is it me or does the I HATE NXEC STAFF,has the same type of comments and use of description of staff that a certain gentlmen who lives in a bank sounds like...a coincidence?
The only problem now is some are starting to sound like children in a playground, make comments but dont resort to childish comments, we are all supposed to be adults.
Yes there are some staff with attitudes and more chips on their shoulders than Mccains ever knew, and how some were employed in this company is a mystery but remember they were employed by GNER, not NXEC. but likewise the same can be said for train passengers, there are some who are pleasent, and will chat or at least acknowledge you, as there are also passengers who are total tossers, think they can treat you like shit and think that complaining in a loud voice will make them look big and us look small, trust me IT DOESN'T, it just makes you look like a tosser, and the
"you could fly chepaer" , well bye then, remember we don't set the prices. The company does
" i didnt hear the announcements" take out ya earphones or get off that mobile for 5 mins, if we told you there were free upgrades to 1st you would miraculously get that astute hearing back
and we have heard about all the dead & sick realtions stories as well, and they are boring as well, it amazing how much you hear as years a employee
I believe that when the station gets revamped i do believe that the bottom gate is going and their will be electronic barriers installed, that is part of the franchise agreement so this WILL happen, as will Kings Cross when the revamp is completed.
So Fentyke how does one join the Blog club club?
-
- 27/03/2008 @ 08:41:27
Fuck me Bad Wolf you really know how to take boredom to the next level.
Were you given a charisma by pass at birth?
How about saying something interesting for once? Like you have stopped breathing?-
- 28/03/2008 @ 12:08:24
You see its comments like that make me agree with a womans right to choose
-
- 27/03/2008 @ 17:40:45
Hello.
The gate thing. As I understand it the main reason for locking it is for revenue protection as it is a gaping great big hole that anybody can access the platform from with no ticket. Problem being as somebody has pointed out is that the buffet door is open and usually not staffed with ticket examiners, this is also a weakness. There seems to be fewer ticket examiners than ever at Peterborough with just 2 or 3 most of the time, this is not enough. The Buffet door needs manning with at least 2 people, the main doors need at least 4 people, the gate could be opened up with at least 2 people and this will alleviate crowding in the main station building and help commuters most of who park in the Mayors Walk car park. Most people who do use the gate it seems are season ticket holders. However the closing of the gate will deter the few who do sadly try it on. I understand that whe Peterborough station is rebuilt that barriers will be put in place, sadly I can see this taking many years yet. In the meantime perhaps NXEC need to take on more and better trained revenue protection staff.
In regard to making the gate a bit more secure, they did fit a small plate next to the lock because it was found that you could open the gate using a credit card, the plate stopped that. You can get a more secure lock for which you will need a modern carriage key as they now have a couple of security features that older ones do not, this will stop people using old BR keys or Audi cars keys etc. It hs been suggested that a keypad lock is to be fitted so that only staff who need to use the gate will have the code, this is a very common thing throughout the railway.
Sorry for not being as exciting as Razor or Badwolf.
Fentyke
I'd guess it was there own doing becasue we've moaned about plenty but sod all else has changed.
