I'm thinking of altering this blog so that only people who are registered can add comments. However as most people who leave comments haven't registered, I decided to canvass opinion first.
Should I or should I not and if not why not?

Well now the Blog has become such a respected and large organ I can understand your thoughts.
Registration was the death knell of computer contractor, its once mighty readership slumped quickly when we realised big brother might be watching.
Leave your Organ alone is what I say.
Why not just moderate the comments that way if anyone sends a comment your not happy with you delete it prior to it going onto your blog page

This blog seems to be going the way of the Hampton Web, with too much abuse from people who hide behind "visitor" status. Once people were required to register the idiots dissapeared and that blog as you know has gone from strength to strength.
As far as I know this blog was not set up to give aimless abuse to staff or commuters. In the early days we had good two way input between ourselves and the likes of "diesel" and "electrics". I enjoyed their input and learned a lot, sadly I learn little from Badwolf, ronnie and other recent posters.
I vote for registration, we may have a few less comments but prehaps we can get back to some real two way dialog that might just help both sides understand each other problems a little better.

Maybe you should try moderating and see how you feel after a couple of months.

The problem with moderating is time but yeah if i can work out how, I may well give it a go.
A lot of the recent comments have been totally irrelevent, just certain people being childish. This is the primary reason that I have not been posting a lot lately as there is really not anything for me to comment on. I don't care about mansions in Grantham. I had no Idea that Grantahm had such a thing.
The thing that I do appreciate about being able to post on here is that I can hide a little and keep my identity to myself which I would fear that registering might risk. Though I have not divulged any trade secrets I would rather my bosses not know who I am.
However if you wish to keep the crappy comments off and keep the subject relevent registration or moderating may well have to be the way to go.
I can see your thinking Fentyke, and as i said in my last post i would happily join up.But i could see especially any staff who come on here who may be a bit dubious about keeping themselves anonymous remember as Electrics rightly says if we get busted we have a lot more to loose than you guys, our jobs for a start.
Would also people who join be able to start a blog off, and if you get some of the numpties who visit decided to join, then can you imagine where this would lead.
I must admit this is the first blog i have kept up with
on my blog I moderate all comments before they go 'live'. Most comments in fact 99% get approved.
But I have had to delete a few bits of some abusive ones.
So I vote for moderation, that way it would sort out the spam and ronnie would go away.
I too have felt no inclination to post due to some of the stupid comments made lately. Though sometimes they are quite funny, and you're left wondering how low down the evolution tree can you get, and still be employed by NXEC??

I think I've found the setting to allow me to moderate all comments without requiring people to register. Only time will tell if it's the right tick box or not so please let me know if your having trouble with a PM.
I think registration is a wonderful idea, but do you think these NXEC oiks will be able to read and write properly? After all I suspect they may well have difficulty remembering complicated passwords with more then four letters.
Incidentally chaps I have been impressed with the St Veran you have been serving in first and the steak sandwiches to are passable.
Coudl you do something about the champagne though?
I have four letters for you... TWAT. By the way, pot kettle black, as I believe coudl is spelt COULD. But what do I know?

At least we have 1 thing in common ILNXEC. Thanks for pointing out the obvious typo too. I really couldn't give 2 shits but if it bothers you that much I'll happily try harder to make my fingers hit the correct keys in future.
That was aimed at Moaning Toff which by the sounds of it is you Fentyke LOL just making up the numbers are we. That is SAD!!!

Sorry. I'll have to pay more attention to my moderating.
Did you a commuter just say sorry are you feeling ok.

Believe it or not, I'm actually quite a reasonable sort of fella and will even appologise occasionally.
I'm with Electrics and diesel on this one,I've also not bothered replying due to the amount of childish response's at times, and have therefore not been visiting as often.
Modding or registering might work, but again I'm with Elec and Diesel, I would rather keep my identity to myself.
Identity to yourself eh? With a handle like tall Un..........Could you be the seven foot beanpole from Grantham station?
Well, only just found your blog today, after reading some 'strange' comments, might be better if some moderated on some.

I hear what you staff say about being spotted as posters on this site... But have you said anything untoward... Admittedly i stopped posting for the idiots that overpopulated the site.... and other things that were going on... I know i have not been critical of GNER or NXEC, but... by the same measure. Evertyone is entitiled to an opinion. If you go to your local and you are talking about summat a bit prickly... People dont say... Jeez the bloke from National Express....
I always try to be constructive... The reason for this is that especially the season ticketers put their money where there mouth is and support NXEC and pay for 12 months up front. I know they only pay for 40 weeks and pro rata it makes travelling cheap as chips... but they still pay out up front.
And you know, if you wanna get better, you listen to the wage payers.... Not just season ticketers but every one... Sometimes good will come out of it... I know sometimes passengers see rose tinted specs... esp over ticket issues... and Guards and TE's are either good guy or the worst guy in the world.
I am rambling, I know, but in essence... don't be defamatory... don't give out any information that you would not ordinarily tell passengers in the course of your journey and it will be cool.
