Mobile coverage on the ECML

by Penfold @ 24/04/2008 - 11:21:36

I'm considering changing phones and provider for my mobile. One thing that I do find annoying about my present provider (T-Mobile) is the poor coverage on parts of the ECML. Apart from the inevitable drops in the tunnels, it's also VERY patchy just north of Stevanage and from St. Ives to Peterborough.

So, gentle readers with other companies: what are the other providers like? (particularly interested in O2).

Well FCC uses O2 for all its railway mobiles, and I think they used to use vodafone. My railway phone actually works in the tunnels just outside of Kings Cross and also works in some other tunnels belive it or not.
Though youll never get a signal on the Hertford Loop - ever.

"3" isn't much better - very poor reception Huntingdon - Fletton.

I ditched O2 last year after the standard of reception fell and became very patchy along long stretches of the line. Since signing up with Vodafone the reception has been far more consistent and stable.

NXEC uses Vodafone for their mobile phones... I must say they are pretty reliable...

But Vodafone are a total rip off... I am with them for my own personal phone and they would have your back teeth if they thought they could get away with it!

Anything but Orange! Lousy reception and rude people in the call centre. Difficult to say anything positive about this company that used to be OK.

To save an absolute fortune and get really good reception try using skype. Calling another skype user is totally free and the charges are not bad to other numbers. Three now supply skype handsets.

although, unsurprisingly, they don't mention anywhere until you get to displaying a timetable that they're valid FROM May 18.
